  1. How many organizations can I volunteer at?

    At this time, you can only volunteer at one organization. We want to make sure that a lot of students can be able to have the opportunity to volunteer.

Joining the Executive Board

  1. Can anyone join the Executive Board? Are there any requirements?

    In order to join the Executive Board, you must become a R.A.C.E. Scholar with us for one semester then depending on your performance throughout that semester, we may ask you to join the Junior E-Board. For more information about the R.A.C.E. Community Service

  1. What kinds of Community Service projects does R.A.C.E. participate in?

    We do all types of Community Service projects each year. In the past, we have read books and played various activities with the children at St.Pauls Homeless Shelter in Rensselaer, NY, Save the YMCA Rally, and Earth Day Clean-Up at the Albany Boys & Girls Club. You can view pictures from these projects, as well as other projects under the "Photos" tab on this website.

Getting Involved

  1. How do I get involved?

    First, you must browse through the "Partnerships & Links" tab on the website to see the different organizations we work with. After that, fill out the Volunteer Application, then we will email you a application to the volunteer organization you selected.

Member Dues

  1. Are there any dues required in order to become a member?

    Yes. For general members, dues are $5. For Scholars, dues are $7. Dues are only paid once per academic school year. Dues are used to pay for printing purposes and event planning for the school year. Once you pay your membership dues, you will receive a membership card and will be able to volunteer at one of our ten volunteer sites.

Earning Credits

  1. Can I earn college credits for volunteering with R.A.C.E.?

    Yes! Members can earn either two or three credits through volunteering for R.A.C.E. Students can register for RSSW 291 (two credits, 60 volunteer hours) or RSSW 290 (three credits, 100 volunteer hours). The credits are offered through the School of Social Welfare.  There are only fifteen spots open per semester in order to earn credits for volunteering through R.A.C.E. and it is based on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested in earning credits for volunteering through R.A.C.E., you must fill out a volunteer application and a Community and Public Service Student Information Form. You can obtain this form at the CPSP Office, Social Science 112.
