Completely rebuilt in 2005-06 as part of the district's sweeping facilities project, the former Public School 16 reopened in the winter of 2007 as Pine Hills Elementary School. Pine Hills is a neighborhood school serving students in Grades K-6 with 50 full-time and 14 part-time staff. Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. The school's mission is to provide a community of support for the “whole child” as it strives for academic excellence on the journey of life-long learning. To achieve that mission, administrators, faculty and staff work hard at establishing a learning community that actively develops and implements best practices.
Special Program: Girls Rising Onto Womanhood (G.R.O.W.) Mentoring Program
The mission of the Girls Rising Onto Womanhood (G.R.O.W.) Mentoring Program is to mentor and empower at-risk girls in elementary and middle school to stay in school, excel academically, and go onto college. As a R.A.C.E./G.R.O.W. Mentor, you will be impacting the lives of young girls by promoting leadership, self-esteem, and community service.
Our mentoring program meet weekly OR biweekly (your choice) for ONE HOUR. We also meet in group settings with all the mentors and mentees on some occasions and have workshops to discuss important issues facing most young women today. In addition, we plan to get these young women involved with community service projects through the Capital City Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity, Capital District Community Gardens, etc. to show them the importance of giving back to the community.
Weekly/Bi-Weekly (Monday-Friday) 11:30am-12:00pm, 12:00pm-12:30pm
